Description:
This test reflects the current Babesia microti activity of chronic and recent Babesia microti infections.
Babesia microti, a protozoan parasite transmitted by ticks, causes a disease known as Babesiosis.
The EliSpot is highly sensitive and can detect even one single Babesia microti-reactive T-cell. With detection levels that can be as low as one cell in 100,000, the EliSpot is one of the most sensitive cellular assays available.

The EliSpot should usually become negative about 4 to 8 weeks after the completion of an effective therapy.
The symptoms of Babesia microti infection can include:
- Fever and Chills: Recurrent episodes of high fever, often with chills.
- Fatigue: Persistent fatigue and weakness.
- Headache: Severe headaches are common.
- Muscle and Joint Pain: Aching muscles and joints.
- Nausea and Vomiting: Gastrointestinal symptoms may occur.
- Sweats: Night sweats are common.
- Anaemia: In severe cases, symptoms of anaemia may be present.
